What we cover

Sport is now an industry of media companies, real-estate developers, apparel manufacturers, regulated gambling operators and device makers, all wearing team colours. We report across eight beats: professional leagues and clubs, broadcasting and media rights, sportswear and equipment, stadiums and venue operations, betting and fantasy platforms, fitness and training technology, esports, and sports medicine and athlete performance.

How we work

We separate reporting from argument. Stories filed under News are straight reporting, built on documents, filings and named sources wherever we can get them. Stories filed under Opinion are clearly labelled as argument, and we expect you to disagree with some of them.

We do not take payment for coverage. We do not send stories to their subjects before publication. When we get something wrong we correct it in place, with a note saying what changed and when.

Who writes it

Arjun Mehta covers professional leagues, club ownership and the media-rights market, and files most of our breaking news.

Sara Whitfield writes on the money: sportswear and equipment brands, stadium development and venue operations, and the betting and fantasy sector.

Dev Kulkarni follows performance technology — training platforms, sports medicine and athlete load management, and competitive gaming.
